Good review. I listen to this album on a regular basis though, so maybe I'm a bit biased. :p

I think the classification of this band has changed with almost every album but all in all i would vouch for Progressive Metal.

the albums got better every time and i cannot wait until this new release in may/april whenever they release it. this wait has been more painful than waiting for californication!!

p.s. dried muffin remnants aphex twin owns.

One of my favorite albums, a great debut by a great band.

I hate Maynards lyrics in this album, so pointlessly agressive, but then, back then they were trying to make a name, so can't blame 'em.

Jones' stuff is quite poor on here too. Paul and Danny do well though.

Musically, it's not my fave Tool album. Actually, it's my least favourite. It gets a 3 in my book, just because of The Gaping Lotus Experience.

Dude the lyrics on this cd are amazing, your crazy (to: sad but true). My favorite is probably "Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow. What you need is someone strong to guid you, like meeee". The lyrics are great.

nice review. i think Opiate is tool's next best CD, up next to Aenima and Undertow.

Right now Tool is probably my favorite band.
My favorite album is certainly Lateralus.
Then comes Aenima and 10000 Days. Undertow is pretty good but I don't hear it much at all.

According to the data above should I give Opiate a try? Is it worth purchasing anyway?

P.S I know this isn't the Advice Center but a short conclusive answer will do.

Yes. Its nothing like the new tool, but Opiate is by far alot better then Lateralus. But the best cd has to be Aenima. Its worth it.

Mathematically that makes no sense because I like Lateralus more than Aenima...
Anyone else? I can't take advice from someone that has a different taste from me.

I would say that it's better than Undertow, but not as good as their 3 newest releases.

I would have to disagree with you there.

Are you saying that this was better than Lateralus?

Opiate is IMO the second best Tool release out there, following Aenima, and followed by 10,000 Days, Undertow, Salival and Lateralus.

1. Aenima
2. Opiate
3. 10,000 Days
4. Undertow
5. Salival
6. Lateralus

I gave a try to it, because i started with later Tool albums.
It seems very -logical- start to what we heard later, Aenima Lateralus etc.
I'd pick for myself Cold and Ugly and Opiate.
Average minialbum, but was alright to have a go.
