When the best defense for a song is that "he's just having fun," that doesn't bode well.

My biggest complaint is the sameyness of a lot of the middle tracks, but that's slowly receding with subsequent listenings.

I'm really frustrated with Rikki Tikki Tavi. I've never been a fan of Darroh's screaming- while it is REALLY unique, it is so uniquely bad I can't listen to it. Anywhere he uses his scream withers and dies. The song is still great, though, which is why his screaming is so frustrating. The nursery rhyme-esque chorus has to be one of the best things they've done. That's just my opinion on that song. Fortunately, the rest of the album seems to be much better. I've gotta listen some more to be sure, though.

Don't forget that Manatee on Fables had the whole "Oh, take a gander the bigger they are the harder they fall." thing, yea those kind of vocals weren't used nearly as long as they are in Rikki but it's the same idea

He also does them in Amarillo in the chorus if you see them live.

Seeing them in a couple months, can't fucking wait. Golden Parachutes might be my favorite right now, but idk, a lotta good ones

They're the best show I've probably ever seen. I'm going to try to catch them again tomorrow for their CD release party.

Album is awesome. Good review. Probably about equal to fables in my opinion. I actually like his harsh vocals quite a bit. At first they kind of turned me off the band, but I got used to it.

Peeps liking Fables and not this makes no sense. Seems like an obvious heir to me.

Fables is probably one of the best albums I have ever heard, but I'm not sure whether the same can be said for A&A. It's still great, but I wouldn't go as far to actually compare it with Fables. I've been listening to this album non-stop ever since it came out. I'm surprised that no one mentioned over-production as an issue here. Fables is one of the most subtle and maturely produced album I have ever heard. There wasn't the slightest hint of overproduction and you could feel the guitars, the bass, the drums, and the vocals to full. A&A has a more expensive production, but it is slightly overproduced. There are parts where you cannot understands the vocals properly because it is enshrouded because of overproduction.

Setting production quality aside, song-writing itself changed a little, in my opinion. I was especially disappointed in the drum tracks of the album. Fables had some sensational drum tracks in it. A&A drums were either stale or repetitions from Fables. Drums weren't as progressive as it used to be in Fables. It had a more generic hard rock feel to it. The songs themselves were more "direct" - an approach that the more mainstream bands use. The guitars themselves as well - Fables was so melodic and everything, but the guitars here sounds more like the other Alternative Metal bands in the radio. And you must have noticed it too because they haven't put much emphasis about the intro, outro and bridges of the songs. Yes, there are some sensational bridges (e.g. Whiskey And Ritalin) and intros like Amarillo, but intros of songs like Manatee (the drums were simple yet innovating), Kyla Cries Cologne, Walls Of Jericho and Say When, and bridges like that fantastic bridge from Say When, Dance Of The Manatee and some others are clearly missing. I feel that they put much emphasis on the choruses and the song structure overall, but even at them, they were either not as great or equally great as Fables, but not more than Fables.

Fables had everything and A&A lacks a few things. That's just it. Giving it a 4.5. or 5 is too much, I'd personally say. 4 seems okay - I was inclined to give it that much because I'm a diehard Fair To Midland fan, but a 3.5 if probably the best vote for this album overall.
