I found Where the dead ship dwells to be easily the best song on here.

Abandoning your sound, which was widely praised, so you could follow whatever trend popped up next will generally garner you much hate.

I enjoy this album a good amount; All For Me, Where Dead Ships Dwell, A New Dawn, and Liberation are all really solid tracks.

I just realized Soilwork is in the exact same boat as these guys. They were great for a few albums, sold out to trends and then tried to make a return to form.

soilwork never released a classic melodeath album though

True, since they were directly influenced by In Flames, but their first three albums (4 if you consider Natural Born Chaos to be good, but I see it as their descent) are killer and in the same genre

I like a Predator's Portrait a good deal but Soilwork were never on the same level as In Flames I don't think.

I consider them to be part of the Big 4 of Melodeath. In Flames, Dark Tranquility, At the Gates and Soilwork. Soilwork is the Anthrax of Melodeath.

Soilwork has been more thrash and speed metal oriented, while In Flames emphasized melodies. Early stuff from In Flames beats anything Soilwork's done, but latest albums by Soilwork are head and shoulders above the In Flames of today.
