My first Pumpkins album. I heard good things from DRybes, and I decided to go out and buy their greatest hits. Incredibly worth it, I fell in love with the band with Rotten Apples.

am i the only person that thinks cherub rock is overrated usually?

Cherub Rock is overated, but it isn't a 2/5. More like 3/5 if you ask me.

"Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and "Zero" are terrible songs at the most. It would have been better if they didn't include the singles from that album, because there are so many better songs on it.

zero and BwBW are great!!

Drown is easily one of the best Pumpkins songs ever, not one of the most instantly appealing though, same with Rhinoceros.
And Drown isn't from Gish, it's from a soundtrack. This Message Edited On 02.01.06

hey man good review. but then i hear youre other stuff was crap so good for you for writing something decent. but why give cherub rock and bullet such low ratings. there riffs deserve 4 out of 5, add in the rest of the parts and there 5 out of 5 man. oh and is it just me or is hummer(track 4 siamese dream for you kids out there who dont no alot of pumpkins(you know who you are)) one of their most depressing yet amazingly cool songs ever written? i dont know why its not on this, i think i'll hunt down mr corgan and ask
|
| |
well, ask his ego as well, i'm sure they'd both give you good answers

Hummer isn't really depressing, especially when compared to Today, or Soma. But it's one of the best on Siamese Dream. And Billy Corgan isn't really as egotistical as people think. But he definitely believes the Pumpkins was basically all him.

yeh plus his new stuff does suck. and i dont find today depressing but thats just me and my messed up head. and your right about soma now that i think about it
|

His new stuff does suck....but it sucks in a way that almost is really good. I would say that Billy Corgan is and was the majority behind the Pumpkins...but without D'Arcy, James & Jimmy....he doesn't quite click....
I think they were a unit in which he found completeness...
btw...Real Love was on Machina II/ Friends & Enemies...
and Untitled was on one of the discs in the box set The Airplane Flies High
and as far as Billy's voice...I think its one of the most annoying voices...if you just listen to his voice....
for the most part though....his voice is just another instrument in the song that completes it....
some of the most influential artists have voices that really aren't that good.

Untitled was recorded 4 years after the release of the Aeroplane Flies High, it's not on there. Only Mellon Collie era songs are on TAFH.

^ probably D'arcy, since she played pretty much the entire time.

You know I've never seen melissa (that sounds like the type of name a hot chick would have) but D'arcy is probably one of the hottest ( if not the hottest) chick who plays in a rock band.
Its very rare to find a girl who is actually into rock and that is decent at playing their instrumentThis Message Edited On 04.17.06

This is the first Smashing Pumpkins cd I got. I really want to find another album that makes me feel the way I did the first times I heard this. It was all I listened to for a month. I really wish I could relive that month.
I would recommend this to anybody.
