Doesn't help that the acoustic versions of a lot of these songs feel the more definitive versions (the acoustic album would be a 5)

I've been a bit split on the acoustic versions

David Sylvian vibes. 'Appetite' version is def better, 'Bonny' too possibly. Don't like 'Love Breaks Down' as much acoustic.

Funny that 'Faron Young' still sounds like the odd one out on the acoustic album

it's been a while and I recently went back and heard his revision of Desire As
it just ain't the same without Dolby's production man

Faron in general is the odd one out on here since it was a song the band had been performing ever since they were just a three piece still acting like punks at festival shows in 1980. It's practically a relic.

I do find the production overbearing on this album when trying to listen to the whole album in one sitting. Prefer the approach on 'Jordan' where I never get tired of the sound and it's actually the songwriting that drops the ball a couple of times (not enough to stop it being a 5).
Maybe saying the acoustic album is a 5 is overstating it...it has its weaknesses too, maybe more I find them both 4.5s.
I like the acoustic and original versions of 'Desire' about equal in how much I rate them. Intriguing arrangement that one.

just to really drive home the point that Faron is by far the odd one out on this

The band's songwriting on Jordan often lends itself to Paddy's style of trying to be smart and witty, which at times comes across as tryhard but is often quite sincere in its delivery (the "fred astaire of words" bit from Paris Smith is a solid example)

Faron Young may be the odd one out, but it's still one of my favorites
For me one of the strongest points of this album is Paddy's vocals though, despite them still being amazing on later releases i feel like they were at their peak here.

That album cover makes this look like it should be the soundtrack to a John Hughes movie

This album proves good songwriting is timeless. Despite some...dated...synth textures the composition is undeniably strong. This cassette sound tracked my mid-90's driving to primary school in a beat-up bright yellow Mazda hatchback and never really hearing anything beyond Faron Young and Bonnie. Desire As is what Tame Impala wish they'd released on currents!
Sidenote: Does anyone else get a destroyer vibe in the vocal delivery?
