Good review, man. I hate to be yet another comma nazi, but if you separated "at times" in the second paragraph with a set of commas, that first sentence would read a lot easier.
Sounds like a pretty decent album, though I'm not enough of a SY fan to give this the attention it may well deserve.

i might give this album a try - as a big fan of sonic youth, i was pretty disappointed by the little i've heard from moore's solo stuff, but then not every one of his records would be the same

there's some nice parts on this but i thought it was pretty dull overall
the last record was kinda flawed but at least he mixed it up a bit, here he goes really overboard with the violins and it becomes grating/repetitive after a while

i recommend checking out the soundtrack he did for the film 'heavy'. pretty cool john fahey inspired stuff
