System of a Down aren't Nu-Metal... I reality they are quite unique, quite mad at times too. Just the way Quenn were with their weird overtures and melodies. It's definetly metal, but quite morphed.
Excellent review, and the album is very good. As is its counterpart.

I've got it. They should be the first Armenian Metal band. =PThis Message Edited On 12.18.05

People are comparing pop music to bubble gum these days, so how about we call System of a Down "terracotta pie metal", because sometimes they use crazy nonsensical lyrics.

Also a good genre to put them in. =P

After repeated listens, this beats the crap out of Mezmerize. All of the songs cept BYOB and Lost In Hollywood are mediocre and this I think is actually more consistently good.

Quite a bizzare release, but that SOAD lol always changing and evolving. I do miss the old SOAD, the Shimmy, the Forrest, the Aerials. Kill Rock And Roll is a goodie, so is Hypnotize. Vicenity Of Obsecenity is one of the most craziest funniest songs ive ever heard, and to tell you the truth is plain stupid, bring back the old SOAD....please....

I like what there doing. There sound has changed a bit...but it's good because when band don'r change there sound they end up sitting around doing nothing. As a band you always have to grab new fans and try new things.

No hes right - Self Titled and Toxicity were absolute awesomeness, whereas mezmerize and hypnotize are leaving behind their original sound and progressing to something more accesible but not anywhere near as good as the likes of say soil, sugar, peephole, prison song, needles, toxicity, aerials etc.

Absolutely terrible album IMO. I cant stand it. I caant handle new SOAD.

Are you kidding, Pearldrummer? Mezmerize seems like it's put together with so little thought. I do like the light and poppy themes supported in Mezmerize and that's still what makes the album enjoyable, but other than that Hypnotize has the absolute advantage with its dark and serious themes. This Message Edited On 12.23.05

In my opinion, "Vicinity of Obscenity" is my favourite song on Hypnotize, because it's probably the greatest filler track ever written.

Omg, how the hell do you quadruple post? Wtf...
Yeah, I hated how Hypnotize was a single too, but I guess they did it because it was the title track.

I know. If "Vicinity of Obscenity" had a video, it would probably be in a bakery where bakers will make terracotta pie out of bananas and there will probably be a butcher shop next door where System of a Down and the whores with bad feet rock out in the room where they beat the meat.

My money's on Tentative for next single. It's catchy enough, and thankfully a little more ballsy than Hypnotize.
