I personally don't like 'Sanwitches' all that much, find it pretty boring. But then again, I am kinda comparing it to the live performance
|
| |
I also preferred the live performance because of how much more energetic it was but i still think it's one of the stronger tracks on here

deviant, epic review... like i'm actually in awe. the two first intro paragraphs are spot on...
haven't heard this yet. probably will in a bit... the way this guy jokes about rape what that became lame like 5 years ago is fucking annoying though. he doesn't have that many foundations for his content... talented lyricist though.

People always mention Yonkers and Sandwitches but I definitely see it as a Tron Cat / Nightmare / Golden affair
|
| |
did you just say his lyrics were lame and then call him a talented lyricist? :s
|
| |
no, his content is basically the same thing over and over again, which gets tiresome. the way he lays it down is fantastic. very different.
there are artists who are better than him in the sense that they rap/write well AND can touch on a different topic every track. there are also artists who fucking suck at writing/delivery and talk about the same shit all the time.

this is my favorite review for this album yet. and I completely agree. also
I hate having songs like Yonkers and Sandwitches on the same album as Radicals and Bitch Suck Dick.
yeah, that.

This would have been a great ep

it could've still been an excellent album. just like a 10-12 track album.
|

I think what he needed was some outside influence/input just to help him cut the fat a little

Yeti how does his production sound like "RZA Lite"?
listen to GraveDiggaz
hear Tyler's inspiration.
Tyler populates his beats with too many B-Movie synths to not, in some way, hearken to old RZA.

This album is getting so many mixed reactions, it's unbelievable. I've been listening to this non-stop since it leaked and I still love it. The only parts I don't really enjoy are the end of Fish and Bitch Suck Dick.

Excellent review, but I disagree somewhat. This album definitely lost a lot of the energy and "raw" sound that Tyler had on Bastard, and there's definitely less of Tyler straight up rapping and more of Tyler messing with lowering the pitch of his voice, but I wouldn't call it a worse album. Bastard has several pretty boring tracks and I'd actually say that Goblin has less filler, even though it's twenty minutes longer. I enjoy every track here.
Lyrics aren't as clever though for the most part

Amazing review Dev, I'm glad you ended up reviewing this. I was really expecting more from this album. The only thing Goblin did was made me realize how amazing Bastard is, like you said if he had some quality control and didn't make the album 74 minutes long this could have been much better.
