You can not devalue an album because of your social disposition.

Mr. Bungle are one of the most unrelentingly creative bands of the 90's.

This album is brilliant, I agree with alot of your review, but the rating is a little low considering it's obvious superiority to almost any other record released at the time.

I agree with Psychopsilocybin.

Concubine should check out anything regarding Les Claypool, because although they're not similar, Patton fans are usually Claypool fans.

Similar musical grounds.

Patton fans are usually Claypool fans.
Count me as an exception to that rule, but this album is phenomenal.

Good review.

This is my first Mr. Bungle album so I had no idea what to expect.

To be honest, it is so fucking weird, but there's something about it that makes it great.

I love how expansive it is. Covers so many genres, and transitions between them seamlessly.

Definitely be checking out California next. This Message Edited On 09.09.08This Message Edited On 09.09.08

A lot of people say that California is better because it's them mastering their sound or refining it or whatever. To me Mr. Bungle's sound isn't supposed to sound mastered or refined, it's supposed to sound like the band could lose control at any minute. That's why this album and the next are my favorites.

This.

California is still awesome though, hell all their records are. ...And I thought Mike Patton was amazing in FNM but Mr. Bungle is the icing on the cake. This man is definitely not from this world.

But still, the music manages to be very creative, and good, whilst you are constantly peeking over your shoulder to see if an axe murderer is towering over you.

LOL

Well I finally got ahold of this ablum and am eager to dive into it.

Love this album, not sure if I like it more than California or not but its close. Can;t really pick a favorite song, all of them are fantastic except Slowly Growing Deaf and Dead Goon (which are still really good, but they're the only songs I can't remember any part of when i'm not listening to them).

Those weird instrumental interludes in Stubb (a dub) remind me of the factory level in Donkey Kong 64.

This album definately had it's moments but the songs were just too long and because of this the album dragged.

One of the absolute best and most influential albums of all time. If you think it's flawed, it's because your thinking is flawed. The album is flawless.

I agree that some of the ending moments (especially after Egg) are too long and drag, but I edited the lengths a long time ago and now it's great (I did the same thing to "The Cry of Mankind" by My Dying Bride and now it's 7 minutes of perfection).
