I think its as consistent as OB4CLII, but by no means his best work. But this and Apollo Kids are definitely bringing back memories of the Wu solo albums golden period

Eno reviewing hip-hop? :0
nicely done, pos'd
Pummeling drum sounds and dense orchestral soundscapes lay on the forefront, but the producing line-up manages
maybe that should be replaced with production?
btw and I know I'm nitpicking here but Kool G Rap introduced Mafioso terminology and organized crime related themes to hip hop
great job though

@somb:i suppose it could go either way, but you're right that might sound better
wasn't aware of the kool g thing, though i suppose it would be a bit late to rewrite that portion
how you been doing btw been a while?

my biggest complain about the album is that rae has been rapping about the exact same shit since we first heard him.
Doesn't bother me; that scratchy voice of his puts my soul to peace.

@ Eno
maybe you can say he was the one who brought it to the forefront of hip-hop, or just leave it as it is, not that big a deal
all good btw, hadn't been reviewing lately had you?
I knew they shouldn't have made you contributor... : )

I agree. It's amazing that Wu-Tang is still putting out classic shit after so many years and they all sound just as good as they did 20 years ago.

really? i mean my review probably stretched it a bit, but i thought it sort of strayed away from the whole mafia, drug-dealing thing. stylistically his rapping sounds the same though.
his delivery has just as much to do w/ it as anything. his lyrics might be a little different on this, but with OB4CL2 i was so excited about some good wu shit and it was full of awesome guest spots so i could deal with it a bit. So it might be more different on this, but I think this was the album where I really started to think it was a little too same-y.
But conversely it's actually kept pretty fresh for the most part by how different some of the production is. Like I don't think his standard flow has ever sounded cooler than it does over the beat in snake pond. So despite my previous statement, i fucking love this and am thinking hard about 4.5.

also album cover would be rad if rae's facial expression didn't make it so silly

I think my main problem with this album is that even though Raekwon is trying to distance himself from RZA, the whole album is kinda a half-assed attempt at creating that classic Wu sound without him. So he's not really moving into his own at all

so true, he still has the movie snippets and the beats are similar to RZA's
idk what his problem is with RZA but he just wants to have that sound WITHOUT him, makes no sense

cheers for the edits bdog
@somb: I think his problem is that RZA isn't interested in producing those sounds anymore

It's all the fallout regarding 8 diagrams
I mean, even the title of the album is a pretty thinly veiled slap in the face
