Agreed, I haven't listened to their entire discography but I don't think anything tops this
|

Yeah this is a modern classic. Mastering is a bit too loud but whatever

The SACD sounds fine, it has around double the dynamic range of the CD.

Always wondered what that super audio shit was about

They have a higher depth than the standard 16/44.1 of the CD, but they need their own device to be played and thus died fast, though they still pop up today every now and then (and hybrid exist, like Rush's Presto). Jazz especially has some killer SACDs, and for some reason dredg's El Cielo has a SACD version that is quite literally one of the best sounding rock albums I can think of in recent times.
However, nerd bits aside, they are just as "useless" as vinyl in the sense that ultimately what matters the most is the mastering. For instance Dead Can Dance published the whole discography in a SACD box-set and it freaking sucks compared to original CDs. Playing the Angel's is great but there is really no reason for it to exist in the sense that they could have just made good CDs to begin with instead of chasing the loudness war.

Next Halloween I'm dressing up as a dynamic range meter.

Didn't know they needed their own device, man that sucks.
The loudness on this is both an issue and part of the charm imo. It seems like the synths in particular are kinda noisy and grating sometimes so making them super loud just helps it more.

Album was too loud, so then I turned it down. Problem solved, I'm so clever.

im trying to think of other bands in which the lead singer isn't technically the best singer in the band. martin gore has a pretty incredible voice
|

You think Martin is better than Dave?!?!!?!?!?!
