Hm, like Roman Candle this isn't doing much for me on first couple spins but it will probably grow on me like that one did. "Good To Go" is my fave so far.

Listen again best album ever

Yeah I implore you to keep trying at this one. I didn't like this as much as his other output for a long time, partly because I didn't care for the first couple of tracks that much and that tarnished my interest in the remainder of the album. Now this is by far and large my favorite Elliott Smith and Needle in the Hay is in my top 5 of his.

Oh yeah didn't mean to imply I wouldn't keep trying it, I've only spun this twice lol, I just like tracking my thoughts.

I like “needle in the hay” but its spindliness never did all that much for me. “St ides heaven” is brutal. “Christian brothers” always my favorite. “Satellite” a new one

St Ides Heaven and Alphabet Town for me. The Biggest Lie is a phenomenal closer too

All true but Southern Belle is one of the most underrated songs on here tbh

That alphabet town and needle in the hay make this one of his best

I wouldn't say one of his best but Needle, Clementine, Roses, Satellite, Alphabet, St. Ides and The Biggest Lie make this a solid effort with that little bit of something special that separates it from the debut

Good choice, luci. St. Ides has to be in my top 5 by him.

St. Ides is a bit of a jilted love now, used to be my favourite Smith tune - probably it's appeal was slightly reliant on me walking home drunk/stoned/etc on the regular

But album wise:
Figure 8
Either/or
Selfie
Roman Candle
Basement
XO
Basement suffers a little from feeling unfinished (since it wasn’t), even though I think it shows an impressive turn in his songwriting. XO has the opposite problem. There are times when it feels slightly overdone, and it’s the only album by Elliott that has songs that I just don’t like that much (Bled White and Amity are kinda throwaways).
His other albums are almost equal in quality.

cute how we're trailing boney in every thread as he checks out the discog
