I like her later work fine, I advocated for stories even. New album just feels a bit shapeless and samey, reminds me of white chalk in that respect

lmfao White Chalk is easily one of the least shapeless/samey albums in her discog

Ok I'll give it another listen, but I never return to white chalk, I always find it opens strong and finishes weak

9. "The Piano"
10. "Before Departure"
11. "The Mountain"

All the arguments I see against hope six always seem pretty weak tbh, like really what is so bad about the album

Honestly Johnny I don't trust anyone who rates white chalk over let England shake soz

yeah I don't LOVE White Chalk either and although the new one is definitely decent, I seem to be getting some of the same 'this is nice enough but am I really connecting' issues popping up thus far
Hopefully something changes (re either album)

White Chalk is like 2nd best PJ

Hope Six is like starting a garage band in high school and getting your geography teacher to talk about The Social Issues TM on top. lame af on release and just aged worse since
White Chalk is fucking great

Hope Six has lame lyrics usually but the music writing direction is honestly as strong as previous work

one of the most (tbh sure) high schoolish parts of Hope Six is the way it sequences its observations of destitution in different nations interchangeably, as though their broadest commonalities ('poverty bad' ass album, yeah sure lol) should somehow transcend the stark differences in material and historic circumstances
comes off as unfocused and underthought, and the muzak is largely average fare

I liked Hope Six but it did feel like she laid things on pretty thick

I've not actually heard Hope Six, maybe I'll incorporate it as an aside to my necessary White Chalk revisit

"one of the most (tbh sure) high schoolish parts of Hope Six is the way it sequences its observations of destitution in different nations interchangeably, as though their broadest commonalities ('poverty bad' ass album, yeah sure lol) should somehow transcend the stark differences in material and historic circumstances"
lmao all around the world punk bands are releasing songs with zero fucking specificity and somehow this observational album is supposed to supply hundreds of years of context?
