If you handed this album to someone who had never heard any of Therion's music, they would probably lap it up and say its the best thing since sliced bread. However, having listened to this straight after the wondrous masterwork that is 'Sirius B', its hard not to shy away from the fact that on 'Sitra Ahra, the band sound completely and utterly devoid of originality. That said, the first half of the album, with great songs such as 'Kings of Edom' and the title track, fares much better than an extremely monotnous second half. Therion need some energy. And then some.

Agreed, in context this album marks the point in which Therion's material went from "sounding like Therion"

to "trying to sound like Therion". Instead of great new material that is undeniably Therion, it sounds like the trite

bottom-scrapings from the barrel of their recent work.

Anyone who has heard their excellent recent work would surely listen to some of Sitra Ahra and immediately long

for the splendor of Lemuria, Sirius B or Gothic Kabbalah (the latter of which is better than people give it credit for).

This album is like an overly-long bad joke that was taken seriously, which is the worst kind of joke.

It's not a good album but it's not that bad if you don't considere what they did in the past, I liked

Kali Yuga - Part III, Cu Chulainn and Din. But guess you can say it's quite poor comparing it to for

example Vovin or Sirius B. But honestly, few albums can stand a comparison to those...

When they rate everything too high, or when they complain about other people's ratings?

And when that happens too often, the average loses any meaning or impact. It's typical of new users,
4.0 = ok.

So, this symphonic metal... gonna' check out.

EDIT: So I heard some songs through yt and... lol.

Stick with Vovin, it's way better than this. Its probably their best album.

PS: I relistened this and i'm dropping my rating to 2.5. 3 was too generous

This has terrible vocals and is overall cheesy. Kali Yuga III rules though, probably the only saving grace of this album, or one of few thereof.

5.0 for land of caanan , - 2.5 for rest, so yes 2.5 is fair
