Let's not pretend this is the best thing ever kids. Not much different than Everything is Fire.

stylistically it's really similar, but i do feel like their songwriting abilities have improved somewhat.

I thought Immo and Gorguts comparisons were relevant on Everything is Fire but they're not really as noticeable anymore. They kind of changed their riffing style on this album. No more songs like Caecus
Also, nice condescension Wiz

getting real sick of these immolation comparisons, this site can't go on without comparing one band with another

what Detriment just said makes a lot of sense though
and it has nothing to do with a sonic comparison

Wasn't meant as that, I mean, the review is fine, just don't go off hyping this when you've probably only spun it for the last week or so.
then should we not pretend close to a world below is the greatest thing ever as well? it was basically in the same style as their past two albums, but the songwriting (imo) peaked on close... and its now considered a death metal classic by many people.
That wasn't the point I was making. The point is that this has only been out for a short period of time and the reality is, Sputnik hypes this once again. Yeah it's great, but it's not a whole lot better than Fire.

Said the person listening to Death Camp For Cutie.
don't think i've ever listened to them before so

after a few listens i believe it is quite different, it's definitely not a huge leap forward or anything.

Upon rereading the review, it does seem a bit hyperbolic (something I'll try to avoid in the future). Reason for the high rating, though, is that this is a bit better than EiF, which was a high 4, so a 4.5 felt natural for this.

I agree that quality-wise this is roughly similar to Everything is Fire (hence all the comparisons I made in the other review), but EiF was completely fucking awesome, and so is this.

Nice neat review. Personally I did not excpect anything less. Everything is fire is for me the best death metal release in the last 10 years so the fact they managed to create a equally good album tells a lot. I cannot think of any other technical brutal death album with such a unique atmosphere. The lads have crafted a different genre of death metal that only they master. This does not happen very often...

Yeah it's definitely not the best thing ever but it's really good (like a 4). It does have some noticeable differences from EiF that deserve mention but it's still Ulcerate.
