Ballads about how much you love and trust Satan just don't work when the lyrics in the chorus are so hilariously obvious.

No, Akercocke write some OK to average Satanic lyrics generally, its just hilarious to hear the chorus of an acoustic song Jason Mendonca singing "Summon, Satan". At least I find it funny.

Well, I take it more seriously, and more so since I, well, let's say I don't like anything to do with religion. I rather find the lyric "Place your faith in sex and death, rather than the wisdom of the divine" obnoxious, and it sound pretty funny when Mendonca rolls the r's.
I constantly have to keep reminding myself that it's also Black Metal because the riffs are repeated over and over again. Guess it's taking time to get the right mindset, so far Antichrist has been a piece of work, but slowly i'm able to indulge.

Epode
Thinking of words
To describe you
No one can know
How much I trust you
Calling Satan
Master of dark deeds
Discarding the mask
Riddled with shame
I'm taking the task
Worthy to your name
Now I request you
To follow my every move
The more I take from you
The stronger I become
Satan
Master...
Cheese-tastic!

Their lyrics are their downfall.
But their music is splendid.

Their lyrics are by no means awful but can be weak at times. They usually do their job, i.e. express Satanic beliefs. But yes, the music is the highlight.
Eyes of the Dawn is probably my favourite track off this album, possibly my fave Akercocke track. It was spectacular live.

I bought this totally on impulse over a year ago and was taken aback by how great it was. It's among my favorite metal albums, and I would say it's near-perfect.
