It's great to see that many high ranked albums in metal are by bands that place emphasis on technical proficiency, though I don't feel that is a top priority for me. Atheist, as any fan (or even non-fan) knows, have always been in this category, by using intricate scales, odd timings, and overall fluent playing, mixing a fine fusion of mostly metal mixed with jazz. Despite the fact that I, personally, enjoy music for it's feel, despite it being simple or not - this is a band I definitely put on for an adventure of what could be a dozen songs contained within one, along with fantastic musicianship overall. Cynic returned with an excellent long overdue follow-up and I look forward to enjoying this one.

Damn, I am so excited for this. I've been listening to Atheist over and over again, just counting down to the 9th. So close now!

It was an amazing achievement for me when I finally learned to play Piece of Time's intro riff on bass. I'll never forget the elation.
Only really ever listened to Atheist's first two, though I much preferred Patterson to Choy. So is this really worth checking out?

"From what I've heard, Atheist is definitely similar to Cynic."
Hum... No. I'm a total Cynic fanboy and I like Atheist... But they are both VERY different. Atheist is more thrashy and some times not too far from Coroner. Cynic is more progressive, jazzy and... hum... Spatial.
Oh and Atheist isn't jazz metal at all, except on Elements which is a great release (fuck those who say it sucks). Some drum parts are a bit jazzy, but that's all.

They have some jazzy intonations just in how they syncopate and use some of their rhythms, it can sound a bit fusion-y, but otherwise I totally agree. The Cynic comparisons only apply to Cynic's demos, which few people have really heard. And for good reason, I'd say.
To the question above, you'll dig this if you likes their first two.

This needs to leak.
The album comes out in NA on the 8th of November. Considering how many ratings and reviews there are now, there already is.
