Only advice I have is to keep it short. You tend to repeat yourself a lot.

oh no I meant mostly that part about mae's meandering. read that paragraph over again a few times i think you'll see what i mean.

The vast majority of the album is directionless and long-winded, with songs that overstay the welcome warranted by their initial appeal. For example, “Over & Over” commences with tight rhythmic guitar strumming and poppy vocals from lead vocalist Dave Elkins. However, the song continues to repeat itself and meander while bringing absolutely nothing new to the table. Admittedly, the section that trades off between heavy guitars and brief drum fills sounds pretty cool, but it is overshadowed by its own excessive length. Songs like “The Fight Song” and “Communication” are even worse off, with easily forgettable hooks and extremely basic riffs that never really break pace. With few exceptions, Mae continues in this manner from start to finish on (a)fternoon, and the complete lack of interesting song structures doom whatever creativity they might have had brewing.

other than those which i highlighted i don't see too much redundancy, and even those highlighted sections pertain to different topics.

i'm not being a closed-minded self-loving reviewer or anything, but i would appreciate it if you could point out specifically where i am being repetitive. because if i could eliminate that kind of thing it would really help me.

"songs that overstay the welcome warranted by their initial appeal."
"repeat itself and meander" "nothing new to the table." "The vast majority of the album is directionless and long-winded"
those were the four points you made and they can be summarized in one. it happens occasionally in other spots but that paragraph irked me just a little. certainly not enough to neg but enough to tell you of it.

i certainly see what you are saying, but how am i supposed to back up my points without referencing my initial argument?

edit: oh and would you say this is something that occurs all the time, or just in this particular review?

It wasn't so much the concept of you writing a few examples after having stated your argument that bothered me it was that the sentences within the arguments said stuff like it repeats itself and meanders and then stuff like it doesn't break pace, which is implied if it repeats itself and meanders.

well 'directionless and long-winded' and 'repeats itself and 'meanders' aren't synonymous, so they aren't redundant, just similar

so basically if i removed the part of the sentence that said "that never really break pace" the paragraph would be fine, based on what you said

i think it is really kind of a small detail to pick out, but i appreciate it nonetheless. would rather have that than people mindlessly pos'ing without reading

Will pos for the summary alone. But seriously, good stuff.

I'm going to go back and read all your Mae reviews all over again to get a final holistic picture. Good work Sowing.
