It's pretty weird that Futile Devices opens this album, I mean beautiful song, but weird

Which other track would you pick? I don't mean this in an aggressive way btw, just like how would you sequence it

I don't mean it in a bad way either, but it just doesn't fit sonically to the rest?
Like I think Now That I'm Older would have been an amazing opener that sets the precedent of what you're gonna hear.

It's weird I flipped through this album today and I can't imagine anything else opening this but Futile Devices.

Imagine impossible soul opening this tho (and futile devices closing it down)

I think from a sequencing point of view that might be too exhausting too soon. If I was gonna go your way of thinking with Older, I'd probably open it with All for Myself.

My point is that Futile Devices just sounds like it is opening a different album like Seven Swans or Carrie & Lowell

"too much" is lovely, really like how the different harmonies (once he sings the chorus low, once high, to simplify it) inflect the melody, and I like "there's too much riding on that" as a lyric

I believe this was a 3.8 back in the day, glad to see it's come up a good bit

nah this was definitely a 4+

I mean the first few years after it first came out. I could be wrong but I remember a lot of people thinking this was Sufjan falling off

Yeah the initial Sput reaction was a hardcore split between those who thought this was absolutely groundbreaking shit and those who thought it was the beginning of the end for ol’ Sufjan. The average was def lower than 4 at one point
