Personally I think Opeth are far more masterful at "setting a scene".
The transitions in later day Enslaved feel a bit jarring at times and if I'm going to be honest I'm not 100% sold on the clean singing either. Solid vocals, but at times it feels a bit too overdone in a "let's show the world how EMOTIONAL I am" way to me.

Agreed, prog Enslaved aren't as adept at creating an engrossing atmosphere, or writing songs without clumsy transitions. Enslaved's cleans are ok, they definitely have nothing on Mikael though (which is a huge strength of Opeth in general).

Mikael is one helluva frontman, give you that. dunno, Opeth just hasn't ever really clicked with me for some reason. and I've given them many chances. I will keep doing so to because on paper they're pretty much the perfect fit.

They've done a fair bit of wrong since this album. Opeth went downhill hard too, both in their prime were amazing but Opeth probably pulls slightly ahead. Both of their recent albums did absolutely nothing for me.

I was supposed to see them live like 6-7 years ago with Opeth and Katatonia (literally 3 of my top 10-15 bands ever in one night) and my ride bailed. Haven’t had a chance since sadly.
