phlebas I honestly think you're over reacting. it's obviously not the worst review on the site, the actual prose was quite tasteful. sure he did go a bit overboard with the whole conceptual praising of the band, but the actual bits about the music and album were nice.
I missed this earlier. I'm not questioning the quality of the prose; it's because this guy can write that I dislike this review so much. It's not the praise that he showers on the band either, but the arrogance and superficiality of the argument in general. Pointing out that musicians need listeners isn't the profound thing made out to be in this review, and saying that any record is somehow 'best' for a generation is ridiculous. Even a record as massively popular as Dark Side of the Moon would have been disliked or unheard by the majority of the generation at the time and it's no different with Radiohead. The only people who think records define or guide generations are music obsessives.
