What? of course it's not bass, you can here Cobains twangy chorus effect. The bass in lithium is pretty much constant though, and does play a vital role in the verse, just pretty much filling and progressing from the route of kurts barchords.

I saw this video on the net the other day yo. Nirvana was playing, Kurt did a stage dive. Some security guy started tugging on the hair. Kurt was all "Hey bastard!" and beat him over the head with his guitar. Then the dude punched him and Kurt fell over. Then Krist and Dave were all like "Hell Naw!" and jumped in that sh*t.
