Sort of a strange review Trey - in that there are 2 separate times you say "unfortunately" early on, but then go on to lay out a number of positives & a 4 rating - but it sort of works to communicate that it's going to take a couple of listens for older fans to get used to.

So anyway, is this mainstream enough that I may like it?

"In the Dark" sounded like a normal nu-metal radio song
ha ha. The sad thing is that you're probably serious.
Members also liked:

Lacuna Coil Unleashed Memories

Isis Panopticon

Sepultura Arise

Anacrusis Screams and Whispers

Aghora Aghora

Anacrusis Reason

Wolves in the Throne Room Two Hunters

Between the Buried and Me Alaska

what the fuck
That's what happens when it builds the list entirely from my rating of this album ;)
The way you prattled on about this band, I assumed they were some bad metalcore band with synths and breakdowns galore, you know like the kind of stuff you normally listen to. Was pretty surprised when I checked them out
Which leads me to a question... did you read the review? I never mentioned metalcore, metal and especially not breakdowns. So, did bloc's disposition for bad metalcore even override my review???

That's kind of what I was shooting for. On one of my very early reviews I started a 3.5 review with the line "This album sucks". ;) Yes, this is definitely something that you could enjoy.

Actually, the few songs I've heard by these guys sounded pretty generic to be honest... Can't see what the big deal is.

Not every band has to be 100% unique in order to be good. Too many people here seem to think that bands have to cram 100 contrasting genres into a song in order to be any good. News flash: Most bands sound similar.

Agreed, just about everything's been done under the sun and nothing is truly original anymore

Band is so catchy. Excited for this one! I preferred Walking to Violet so I'm sure this is right up my alley

I'm a big fan of Violet. I think that one is more of the total Birthday Massacre package. If they could re-record that one with this one's flawless production...

True, bands don't have to be 100 percent original to play music. Some bands don't even have to be anywhere near original as long as the music is solid enough and has enough of their own flavor to stand apart from the crowd. What I've heard from this band is just derivative of what other bands in a similar style are doing, and I've heard it done better in my opinion. What I've heard from these guys comes off a fairly generic and soulless.

I like this band, so I'm not trying to be a smartass... but if there are better, similar, bands out there then I'd love for you to reccomend them to me.

Also, I noticed that someone else rated this. Does that mean it's out somewhere now?

I'm not saying that it's bad, I haven't heard this album and I've enjoyed what I've heard from it a little more than older material. I also tend to be overly harsh when comparing, and a lot of it for me is in the bands aesthetic, not necessarily the actual sound. But off the top of my head I'd say:

Kidneythieves
Tristesse de la Lune
Jack Off Jill
The Cyan Velvet Project

Since I can hear these in Birthday Massacre, at least their older material, it kinda dulls it for me.

found this band quite by accident. but nonetheless i'm hooked. Favorite songs are Falling Down, Red Star, Lovers End, The Dream, and Looking Glass. What other songs would I like, from just listening to those ones?

Would you find this album to be an improvement over Walking With Strangers? I really liked songs such as Kill The Lights, Goodnight, Unfamiliar, Red Stars and Weekend off that one.

The only tracks I've heard are In The Dark, which didn't impress me that much, and Shallow Grave, which is a good track, but doesn't stand up against most of their previous material.

I loved the 'Two Hearts' sample though, and the closing track also promises to be great. I guess I'll just wait and see.
