I would have loved to have been able see Jethro Tull live in the mid 70's, possibly even late 70's around the Heavy Horses era. Anderson had such a commanding and eccentric stage presence and was always faultless musically/vocally from the live footage I've seen from that era.

I'm going to have to say ACDC. It was all out entertaining rock of the highest order. Also rather surprisingly Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. It was at a dingy club, they walked on and absolutely ripped. The place went mad and it's always stayed with me.
Good choice JT.

Good choice indeed. Didn't Anderson have a throat surgery somewhere around the mid '80s?
|

Yeah, understandably he was never the same vocally after that.

Indeed. Those who saw him before the surgery were very lucky.

Great album, great review.
James Beach says on youtube: "There is such a thing as over rehearsing . We were young and inexperienced and had no money. So we went in to the local studio and played together. One takes. I could barely hit the notes from singing so much, days earlier. I think all of us were very disappointed in the end result . I know I was. We sounded so much better than what got recorded. Oh well, glad some folks liked what we were doing. Thank You."
Aww.

Thanks for that, Eg. I can understand why he was unhappy but the rawness is part of the charm of this album. I mean how much better can this one get?
|
| |
Yeah, people are always harshest on their own works, because they know what went wrong and how they didn't do something as well as they could have. It's hard understanding why someone would prefer a technical flaw or imperfection over the way you intended it. Totally genuine artistic comment, but this album is perfect regardless of intent and failure.

Also, paradoxically, this is why a producer can save an album. If they are only interested in getting the best music recorded, some band members may feel mighty hurt.
