Sputnik says Fair to Midland and 3 are progressive and I don't see that at all. I dunno

There's no way that you can deny that Deftones expanded upon themselves and their genre.

What other alt metal band goes from bouncing riffs with insane screaming and robotic vocals (Elite) to soft crooning over a sad acoustic guitar and trip hop beats (Teenager) within the same album?

So progressive is when a band does something completely and utterly new. In other words nobody.

His definition of progressive is totally off.

Progressive = weird timed rhythms, longer songs, great dynamics, complex instrumentation

progressive has different definitions.

progressive = weird timed rhythms, longer songs, great dynamics, complex instrumentation. as a genre

but then, bands can progress and further develop their sounds. if a band doesn't progress then they just keep writing the same stuff over and over.

2 totally different definitions, and i think he is trying to combine the 2

All bands should develop their sounds and progress. That doesn't make them progressive as a genre. Cave In has changed a lot, but I wouldn't call them progressive, for example.

Hey, Limp Bizkit has a 16 minute instrumental song, does that make them progressive nu-metal?

progressing =/= progressive

Limp Bizkit has switched up their style every record, that doesn't make them progressive.

That's my point.

Also, Limp Bizkit isn't complex at all.
