"Cohen is the better songwriter and lyricist"
Beg to differ, Dylan without a doubt had a greater grasp of overall song craft.

Also Cohen's original of Hallelujah is great, wtf are you on Fripp?
It may not have much in the way of musical/vocal qualities to make it stand out over the hundreds of cover versions but the original still has that magic atmosphere that others have failed to fully replicate.

the original is a godsend in comparison to the various cover versions
then again, I'm the guy who thinks Selling England is better than The Lamb (this is fact, Twort. You know it to be true.)

"then again, I'm the guy who thinks Selling England is better than The Lamb (this is fact, Twort. You know it to be true.)"
I do believe it is a fact that you are the guy who thinks that, you've reiterated with enough sincerity for me to believe that they are your true thoughts.

"you gotta admit, the song's been worn out by the amount of sappy covers it's had"
aka Cale's shitty cover kinda killed the whole thing, yeah I agree. Still doesn't make the original less than one of the best songs ever

Album Rating: 4.5
eh, that cover isn't all too representative of Cale considering you thought the guy was boring based off of just that
also, killing it? dude, that cover jumpstarted that shit that culminated in it being covered to death by the millennium.

Album Rating: 4.8
I don't see how that disproves my point... the only good thing Cale's cover did was inspiring Buckley's
