jazz-rock is more adjacent to fusion than it is "jazz" though, no?

Perhaps. Though tortoise isn't jazz rock.
All jazz-rock is influenced by jazz. But there are a lot of jazz-rock albums that are also jazz fusion.

Some songs come close, but they are still more accurately described as post-rock than jazz rock.

"Sarah, Mencken, Christ, and Beethoven "
Probably post-rock like most other songs

other than post-rock, which is moot for all these tracks -_-
that track's melodic vocab (and to a lesser extent the t/t's) leans p clearly into jazz influence, just need an appropriate tag for it. similar story (though v different sound) on parts of Standards

Yeah it's influenced by jazz for sure. As well as some electronic dub derivative genres probably.
wdym by "need an appropriate tag for it"? Here on sput?
|

Album Rating: 4.7
Well, it already has a jazz tag on sput - so more of a question of whether that's appropriate, or would be better (expediently) denoted by fusion
(I now have a Jazz pie slice and look like a colossal poser for it - am playing damage control here)

It would be better with neither so the charts are more accurate.
Time to encourage people to stop using tags everywhere for any detectable influence then!
Or in the case of jazz, when instruments associated with jazz are present.
