Moonchild's probably my least favourite on here, really cool record though. Love the weird slightly dark spacey atmosphere.

I think Crimson is what got me interested in jazz in the first place, cheers to Fripp.

Yea he a musical genius. I read a great interview from a 1987 magazine where I think he basically said that he wanted to bring together influences of classical and jazz with the raw power of rock and roll.

I can definitely see this growing on me, my favourite 70s prog album so far, honestly.

If you define 70's prog as some sort of movement then this is more or less the start of it, so I guess it could count. I think that Foxtrot and Close to the Edge are both definitely better, but this is top 10 for sure

I'd remembered this being early 70s, '69? Wow. Respect! This perhaps sounds more innovative than what came after, to me. Admittedly, I need to give a few other albums more attention first.

Check out Procol Harum - Shine on Brightly if you're looking for influential/innovative 60's [proto-]prog.

Thanks for the tip. I'm bumping my rating for this. I'm optimistic that one day it could be a 5.

I don't do 5s this early, needs longer to properly sink in. Instinctively I could but it's not quite there, yet.

Edit: this is clearly the wrong place for this but I was following Jamie's advice by looking at the Procol Harum band page & all of their albums are below 100 total ratings. Seems a little odd... I was expecting more, admittedly I don't know much about them but considering I'm aware of their existence & know one of their songs despite them being 'before my time' I expected a lot more.

Talk to the wind prevents that.

If any one thing could be held responsible for this not being a 5 it's Moonchild.

@Sunlight: Yeah some well known classics are weirdly overlooked on this site.

Moonchild is probably the weakest here for sure. However, I do have one other nitpick about this album, which is that 21st Century Schizoid Man creates a tonal inconsistency for the rest of the record. Most of the album is wispy and soft, so it seems a bit weird to kick it off with a song that I'd swear I heard from Red
