This might be the best pure ‘second wave’ post-rock album, but sometimes I feel like post-rock has even more potential when used as an accompanying part of an overall journey. The term is essentially nonsense anyway, I mean that’s why we have ‘waves’ and whatnot and even that by itself isn’t anywhere near specific enough to describe the genre as a whole.

Bark Psychosis, Talk Talk, Tortoise & Slint. There are others, but those four are most often cited as the influential first-wave bands - I'd be surprised if you hadn't heard them already tbh (in fact I'm sure you will have re Slint / Talk Talk)

‘90s post-rock is basically the best genre ever and musically diverse too. Bark Psychosis, F#A# and Slow Riot, Agaetis Byrnun, Spiderland, last two Talk Talks, the best Tortoise albums, and the first two Mogwais.
