Depending on the album, they're actually much more strange than anything Borknagar has done. Solefold's last two albums are similar to Borknagar, but good luck comparing their first few albums to Borknagar.

Now when you say strange do you mean that they're more comparable to a band like Arcturus?

Yes, but in a totally different way. You'll see. If you like The Linear Scaffold then get Neonism next and you'll see what I mean.

I mentioned them to you in an Enslaved thread and said that if you liked Enslaved that you'd probably like them too (maybe it was a Graveworm thread)…. anyway, yeah.

Only Borknagar album I have is Quintessence. Honestly, it bored me a little, so I never got interested in any of their other albums. This, however, has picked my curiosity

Nice to see you back Hawks. Good review, but I have an few issue with this:
Instrumentally Borknagar doesn't really do anything that you haven't heard from a lot of the other melodic black metal bands out there.
This doesn't really help your case in rating it a 4. I would probably include a sentence or two afterwards saying something like:
Despite the lack of uniqueness, Borknagar do this style of black metal extremely well....blah blah blah

You said this one was their most underrated, so which one is their best??
|
| |
I hate, absolutely hate Vintersorg's voice, so much in fact that i really can't even bring myself to listen to Borknagar's work with him. That being said in my humble opinion, i think their S/T and Quintessence are their best works. Both Garm and Vortex are great singers as well.

Definitely still check this out then. Quintessence is by far their worst album.
You said this one was their most underrated, so which one is their best??
That would either be Empiricism or The Olden Domain, with this not far behind.
