oh shit this is life of leisure thread i thought we were in within and without

@robertsona this ep for sure defines the feel good summer vibes of the ~2011 period for me, epochal is a good way to put it

Those laid back summer vibes seem so out of place for Portlandia. I mean, kudos to Fred Armisen for having his ear for good indie pop, but I'm always kind of confused by the presence the song.

I mean that song is such a "'hipster'/'pitchfork' classic", I can see the fit in terms of ethos

It's definitely hipster, but it's so sunny and beach-y it feels California hipster rather than Portland hipster ya know? It doesn't feel quirky and weird enough.

Ha! Yeah, I think that's part of what made Washed Out blow up the way it did, and in a roundabout way led to me discovering it.

Which beach do you live by?

Oh nice. The little known ones are usually the best ones.

grandview and beacons are nice. ponto is a little touristy. are you from the area?

I used to live in South LA county a lifetime ago. I still get homesick for it.

miss when this came out and was the hot jam for a few years, I doubt I'll ever enjoy it as much as I did when it was a more breakthrough sound
