The original Sabbath would have never been so good if it wasn't for Ozzy's vocals,
THIS
...
even though he contributed only vocal melodies to the songwriting.
Didn't he write 'War Pigs' lyrics, and some other stuff...?

As far as I know Butler penned all of Sabbath's lyrics until Dio showed up.

Am I the only who really fucking adores this album?
Maybe it has to do with it being the first Sabbath release that I heard fully and not having any expectations about their sound back at the time.
But even now, I can totally seperate it from their material and still enjoy it for what it is... and I really adore this sappy emotional kitsch.

this album bores me. i dont understand why people speak highly of it. Why the song headless cross isn't bad I just don't like the way Tony Martin sings it.

This album is very good. Cozy Powell druming, nice keyboards by Nichols and Martin's "Dio-esque" vocals are very good.
|

I was a little dissapointed with this record. Martin is a good singer, but the band just seems to be trying too hard.
@ Nagrarok: I like the Ozzy era, though I still need to listen to it more. Maybe then I might agree with you. I think the Dio era was great as well.

This album is pretty good.
Easily their best post-Dio-era album, I have yet to listen to the new '13'
There is also enough variation on the album, ex. the last track looks like a pretty sincere ballad, well written, the lyrics could be better, but one can say that for most Sabbath Albums

the album is way too inconsistent, it has some great tracks but most parts are boring

Black Moon is seriously one of Iommi's best riffs
|
| |
One of those albums where the riffs are so far ahead of the vocals

vocals are fine they on par with the instrumentation imo

Never got into Tony Martin's voice that much. Its good, just lacks character.

"the riffs are so far ahead of the vocals"
As far as I'm considered, Iommi's riffs were most of the time ahead of the vocals, even in the Dio-era Sabbath.
|
| |
Agreed. Its just a lot more noticeable on the Martin albums imo

Not exactly my favorite version of Black Sabbath indeed it's very generic sounding but overall it could of been done a little bit better at least it
doesn't sound like bubblegum metal LOL like some bands we're going for at the time LOL.
