Look, you people have got me all wrong. bpm figures does not make a band good, and I never said it did. And the whole Opeth thing is not something I want to discuss on a Ripping Corpse review. I have heard bands that make Opeth sound plain, and not so special. I dislike both opeth and dragonforce for various reasons, as I think both lack talent, both are overrated, and much of opeth's music especially on their debut was very sloppy to me. Although the may have improved slightly, I still don’t find it to be significant. And I disagree, FadeToBlack, about the origin comparison. Ripping Corpse may not use blast-beats as often as some other bands, but when they do, they match the tempos, of bands like terrorizer, Anal Cunt, Assuck,Cryptopsy and many brutal death metal bands.

but that's my point. tempo doesn't matter. you can throw a stone into a brutal death metal collection and find all sorts of bands who play faster and more tech than pretty much anything but that doesn't make them good.

i was going to continue this but seeing as you have already made urself look like an idiot on my shoutbox (in context to my post analysising just one difference in the talents of Opeth and Dragonforce) and because your new, i won't. Many users here would go on to make u look even more stupid but im not like that. I think what you have said already speaks enough. Hopefully you'll take advice and improve your writing skills. Everyone has potential to be a decent writer regardless of how bad their first review there is. But as i said, unless u can give concise arguments as to why u feel Opeth are just as bad as Dragonforce then i won't take u seriously. You can attempt to do that in my shoutbox if u would like but i doubt u will get very far.

I have heard bands that I believe are far better than opeth. In the same way that FadeToBlack is arguing that tempo isnt everthing, i can use a similar one about Opeth's style. And just because they are progressive doesn’t mean everything in my opinion. I think they are lackluster, and repetitive, as well as unoriginal. i think the same thing about messhuga, In flames, and several other bands which even though the have structure, none of which are specail. Drogonforce is a fake studio band that cannot even play some of their songs live without messing them up, and rely on tapping to make them look like they are super technical guitar players, when that is not the case. Opeth, i just find to be not really that complex, but equally as overrated as dragonforce.

You say it isnt all about complexity but read your last line. You jsut go straight back to it everytime. Opeth isnt about complexity per se. Musically each individual part of their songs may not be incredibly technical but its the way they put them together and transition between incredibly different parts but while still remaining cohesive in a song that makes them great. I did say Complexty isnt everything in my last comment. True. Nor is speed. But these are things that I look for in music, and have a preferance for (with some exceptions of corse) , so my oppinion would be largely based on that.

to me if u think a band sucks because u feel its just technicality for the sake of it (i feel amphecture and some DT albums for example are like this) then fair enough. But to say an album because it isnt technical enough without even looking at songwriting i think is a bit stupid.

@ Shadowremains True. And my whole point with this review was to show the capabilities of this band in terms of technicality, speed and songwriting, only instead of the word songwriting, i used the word innovation. but thats what I meant. Ripping Corpse is very capable in these areas.

And when it all comes down to it, some may say opeth are spectacular songwriters. To some this may be true. but to sombody like me, who doesnt like the band's sound, nor style, of corse im going to dissagree. and i think that there are better bands out there than opeth in musicainship, which i still believe opeth lacks.

Opeth as musicians are great and the ideas are good but imo the execution is poor, long drawn out and fairly boring songs (imo) bring them down quite a bit in my book. I like the band I just don't understand why everybody here feels the need to blow loads over them everytime they are brought up. Just my opinion on the subject.
