i can never find any of their cds for less than like $18-20. if i ever see king crimson in-store it's live shit or rarities. even on amazon the cds hover around $20, and a lot of them are listed as imports. i may be a lover of music but i'm not dropping $100 on five cds

discogs is your friend

tons of different pressings, so unless you have a hard on for Wilson's remasters (though his remaster of Islands is probably the definitive version of the album), getting earlier issues will be easier on your wallet

How bad were Wetton and Lake writing lyrics that Fripp had to ask a LYRICIST to write the lyrics? Asking people outside the band to help writing songs is the worst decision you can make.

" Asking people outside the band to help writing songs is the worst decision you can make."

tell that to Brian Wilson, who was a magnificent producer and composer but couldn't write good lyrics without someone to spruce it up - even by his own admission.

Both Peter Sinfield and Richard Palmer-James were lyricists that fit the band's image and their direction. That's not to say the band themselves didn't write lyrics because that's not the case, especially with the Larks/Starless/Red lineup, a lineup that featured lyrical contributions from all the band along with Palmer-James' contributions.

I normally don't like having outside involvement in the songwriting, but KC is such an institution that has so many elements in the melting pot, that it's alright to have the lyrics outsourced. Plus Lake and Wetton were beasts on the bass and had great voices. No complaints

At this point I'd like to think king crimson as a project more than a band...just like Alan Parsons..
