Also, note that you should not be asking do you agree but whether or not the review was well-written.

Does the new Dead Weather sound a lot like Sabbath? Did Modest Mouse's first major release, Lonesome Crowded West, sound a lot like Built to Spill? Did Eliot Smith strongly evoke the Beatles? Does every Strokes record rip off late 70's New York? Does Ariel Pink sound like MC5?

Do all of these artists suck & should hang it up?? Oh, wait. That's right. It's called:A GENRE.

I know WATW. Funny that you think this important, beautiful collection is a Knife rip off.

And even stranger that Mt. Sims (Olaf's writing partner of the Darwin opera they wrote together) and Van Rivers & Subliminal Kid LOVE this record...never even came up once in 2 years that these songs are close to the Knife's. But one thing's for sure; most people are sheep.

You've completely missed my point. What I was saying is that they basically rip-off The Knife. Therefore it's not original (and its one of the most obvious rehashes I've seen in a long time) and could easily be better. Granted, originality doesn't mean everything-not by a long shot. What I am saying is that We Are The World could be A LOT more varied. If it wasn't so Knife-centric, the band would have potential; if they had released the last half as an EP it would be a 3.5/4. They aren't succumbing to a genre (which isn't necessarily a good thing to do), they're ripping-off an artist (and making it very fucking obvious.)

What I'm saying is what happened to originality.

Bands break boundaries all the time, Lindstrom, Kayo Dot, Unexpect, and fuck... Modest Mouse belongs on this list while we're at it, as their sound is pretty hard to replicate.

This isn't necessarily hard to replicate, considering that Clay Stones is basically a replication of The Knife's previous work (as stated by many reviewing sites, even pitchfork).

Odd that apparently I'm the only one to call them Knife-centric and yet I'm a sheep. Odd that I don't care about Mt. Sims and Co.
