Review Summary: An addendum about volume.
This is less a review, but more something necessary that needs to be said about this album.
The most important issue that needs to be addressed about Foxy Shazam's self-titled album is volume.
The simplicity and accessibility of their third LP can be reduced to decibel level. This main and most essential fact you need to know about this album: How loud you should play it.
Everything else is trifles and semantics: arguments against the album re: selling out, pedestrian lyrics, canned for the masses, no. No no.
Not every album should be played this loud. In fact, many albums should never be played loud. I submit that
Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, Sigur Ros's (),
Nick Drake's Pink Moon are just a few examples of albums that should be whispered through speakers, and the success of those albums rests greatly on the amplitude with which they are played.
Now we can all think of albums that should be played loud, and there are far too many to list, but Foxy Shazam's album is required to be played loud. Like, "our amps go up to eleven" loud, like Live At Leeds loud, like windows down, amp cranked, boil your blood and and break your ribs loud. I cannot stress how important this is to enjoy this album.
I believe the other reviewer captured the essence of the ins and outs of the album very well, so this is just an addendum.
