Whatever the single is, the bass riff sounds like I've heard it somewhere before.

There's two singles.

The one with the absurdly catchy bass riff that Triple J is raping to death.

I don't listen to Triple J. I assume you mean Close To You.

For some bizarre reason I thought it was called Wingman, but it turns out that doesn't exist, so I presume I mean Close To You as well.

My thoughts as well.
As for the Xavier Rudd comment: True, but there's a difference between changing the sound and making it simpler for the sake of commercal gain and/or because the artist can't be fucked putting the effort into the album.

just downloaded close to you. bugger the rest of the album =)
as an impartial fan of JBT, i don't really care about any sound change. in fact, i don't really care if a band i love commercializes their sound, as long as it's still enjoyable.

Meh, I don't think it's a conscious effort to commercialize. John will always be John and do whatever the shit he wants. I worship Ocean. I praise bands that strive to change. It's like flipping a coin, sometimes it lands on the side you -as a fan- want it do, sometimes it doesn't. Checked out a couple more songs and it's definitely not my lucky coin. Forgot to say though, good review eclectic. First paragraph is good stuffs.

Yeah, considering it, he probably just wants to rock out and doesn't care if the record sells well or not.
Ah well, maybe next flip it'll work out.
Thanks man, much appreciated.

I thought you were supposed to like this album, Michael? Seems odd you're giving John so much shit for it.

@Atavan: Its because, as stated at the end of the review, I belong to the category of people that got into the band because of his playing, so this album is a little hard to swallow. I'm actually tempted to put my personal rating (as opposed to the critical rating) at a 3, but I've put it where it is because I'm torn between both sides and a midway point makes sense to me.
If you're talking about how I told people it was really good, then I'm sorry for that, when I first listened to this that was how I felt, but a lot of the tracks have grown off me and I've thought about it a bit more, leading me to my current position.

How does every Xavier Rudd album sound the same? Especially with DSOB, thats completely different (and awesome).
Mystery Man is the best track by far on this average album

Agreed. The first 11 tracks are flawless and the only forgetable tracks are near the end.

Listening to this so far and I'm definitely pleasantly surprised. Bought it just cause, like to get relatively appealing popular new music as it comes out but I certainly didn't expect this. Revolution slayed me.

thought it said ape uprising, especially since there's a jungle creature on the front
