Would've rather them dropped a song/album out the blue like Koi No Yokan tbh.

Thank u for your opinion. This is actually up there with their best Imo. It's not as "edgy" or nu as their other stuff but way better than KNY. That was like their worst album imo

I agree DE is way better than KNY, and also their first two albums for that matter. But I don't think it touches SNW or WP.

Risk, Rocket Skates, title track, Royal and Beauty School are amazing songs but the rest is kind of meh for me. Something that doesn't happen on SNW, with the exception of Mein and that god awful outro of Pink Cellphone.

Chino said the new album will be heavier than Koi No Yokan. If that's so, I'd be completely OK if they regress to something like this, though I'm eager to see these guys experiment a bit more.

what does it for me is the production here. The 8 string tones are fucking HUGE and the drums crisp. Tbh I find WP to be a bit overrated and not aging all that well. Self titled has some fantastic songs tho. Love Hexagram

I agree Hexagram is ageless, Pins And Needles and Bloody Cape hit hard too. I might even prefer the s/t over WP.

Don't really agree WP hasn't aged well though, it still seems as their most experimental compared to their other albums. I can see why some people find it overrated though. I'd place it as third best probably, then this.

The guitars on that album seem a little bit trebley and remind me of the disgusting fuzz on their debut a little bit sometimes but other than that the production's stellar yeah

WP probably only seems trebley because everything other album has such deeper tones

White Pony is way too trebly, SNW and KNY are too washed out. This and s/t defs have best production. Deftones function best when the low end is cranked.

WP isn't really trebley at all tbh. Best Deftones production on that album.

No way this has the best production. I always thought the production on this sounded a bit like a rush job, with the exception of the excellently-produced t/t.

Beauty school has those lovely off beat drums.
Butcher sounds raw af.

Also Chino sounds great here. Maybe it's all smoke and mirrors but he sounds on key (watch live footage, not really famous for his great live vocals) and not all messed up like on S/T.

idk I always thought KNY took the production on this and gave it so much more depth

I mean the production hardly holds this back, it's still amazing

Just not their best-sounding album
