SLC stands for Salt Lake City, a US city and the movie setting, if thats what u mean by yank. not all the characters are entitled white boys, buuuut u know that is part of actual punk culture if u ever interacted with music scenes outside the net. worthy character development and criticism lol if u dont get too butthurt by someone pointing it out.

It's just that a ton of the punks I've known in my life are NOTHING like the fashion punks in SLC Punk. And the movie is barely about music at all. None of the notable characters are in bands, which really sucks lol.

I'm from SLC so it gets a lot of points in my book for that fair-and-balanced depiction of the setting but yeah it's just okay ultimately, some quite good performances but the script is pretty stock coming of age fare

Some SLC Punk characters remind me of real people for sure. Though I could see preferring characters to be in bands. Whatd u think of the CBGB movie?

The CBGB flick was just paper thin, even by 2013 standards, but honestly it's silly movie where you can point and go "there's *insert famous individual/band from CBGB era*" or just laugh at the dumb jokes if you choose to just turn your brain off from the onset. Not really worth rewatches, but it was solid for watching while high with your friends in the middle of lockdown with nothing to do like I experienced it.

The Decline of Western Civilization is probably first. Suburbia, Green Room (it’s really not that punk, but the punk set dressing feels good to me) & the Ian Curtis movie, Control are pretty cool too.

I was really looking for films excluding documentary. Regardless, I haven't seen Decline of Western Civ Doc so I'll look it up soon. Ian Curtis movie.... 24 Hour Party People?

Control IS the Ian Curtis movie. I left out a crucial comma, so I don’t blame you

It’s a good album if you don’t have somebody bitching about it beside you.

It’s easy to mock the album now but back when I was becoming your dad it was a game changer.
