Who knew Fred Durst had a brother in another band? The rapping is totally not cool on an album of this potential.
Warflower is great though.

Thanks Observer. And Powerban I completely understand where you're coming from. I know the rapping will keep some people away from this band.

It won't keep me away, and I do like this cd a fair bit. I just wonder how great this cd could of been if they concentrated on making songs more like Warflower. I can forgive them since it was released when nu-metal was big, Infact I probably would of thought of this cd as an easy 5 stars back then.
I agree with your highlights of the album though. I love how Focus ends with a raw vocal chorus of Warflower before going into reborn, definitely an album standout point.
These guys could of been huge indeed. Is 44 much different? Like is there more/less rapping on it?

Couldn't tell you cause I haven't listened to it yet, haha. I may get to that tonight or tomorrow and I'll let you know how it is. From what I've heard it's better than this.

44 doesn't have any rapping, but its more straight radio rock than the progginess found on this.

ya 44 has no rap at all and is still an amazing album, i guess you could say radio rock but not in a bad way at all, it has some more ballads on it but is still a classic

I think bar a few moments this album starts to go downhill in it's second half. Warflower is actually amazing.

Concur. Warflower, Beauty and the Beast and Focus - Reborn are the only tracks I listen to. I suggest putting on Focus - Reborn on after Warflower to add to the awesomeness.
Without those 3 songs this album would be about a 2.

Is he actually related to Fred Durst? Because he does sound an awful lot like him.

No, Not that I know of. My opinion of him would degrade on knowing that it was true though.

I just saw your comment at the top of the page, hence my asking. Actually the rapping isn't the problem, I just think in certain points he degenerates into cliche nu metal posturing.

I think the rapping is the problem for me, I can only stand it on Focus. It seems more like a P.O.D sort of nu-metal rap on that in parts, but it's just the whole song together that makes it.
Like I said, This album with out nu-metal or rapping would be awesome imo.

Yeah, my rating would probably go up.

another Great Review, pos.
sadly this is one of those bands that (as you pointed out in the review) never really climaxes with any of their music even though the music itself is brilliant. That is the main thing that is blocking me from rating this any higher. I have 26 free downloads saved up, I'll listen a few more times before I'm sure, but I don't think I'll be spending any of those on this.

This is a quote from Chuck, Percussionist in The Mayan Factor:
"** we are still around .. a brief hiatus, but we are back .. going into the studio this month to start our long awaited 3rd album .. please come see us on our Facebook Group Page **"
Great news. Hope they concentrate on the right sound with their next album and they could get a 4.5/5 from me if they do it right.
