Nighttime Birds is basically a more refined version of Mandylion. It has the doom/gothic influences that Mandylion has but it's less rough around the edges. I guess you could say that it's less heavy too. Anneke sounds more trained and a bit more constrained. Lastly, it doesn't have any of the trip hop/electronic elements that you can find on How to Measure a Planet?.

The last couple of minutes on Travel are probably the most emotional in all of The Gathering's discog.

Does this have the potential to bore or is it good enough that someone with a 21st century attention span could get through it?

Really apprehensive about buying a 100+ minute album
