Everyone on this site thinks they’re in some exclusive club and gains self righteousness from digging such an abrasive sound with their “counter culture” “us against the world” mentality. You know everyone else enjoys equally abrasive music without having a stick up their ass and being able to take criticism of their band? That’s because this shit isn’t about the music. It’s about identifying with an idea and community. One that I don’t like and never wanted to be a part of. I remember thinking Converge fandom was kinda annoying like 12 years ago when they were one of the three bands anyone on the site listened to, but they don't oversaturate discourse or acclaim to remotely the same extent nowadays - they've earned their share of reverence, but pretending that Converge fans post-Bloodmoon have anything like a stick up their arse about criticism just makes me wonder what's actually being projected here
if anything, TDEP and Botch are slightly more tightly gatekept nowadays maybe
