Naaaaaah. "Tragic Idol" comes close, but both "In Requiem" and especially "The Plague Within" are nowhere this although solid efforts.

The Plague Within is best modern PL by a landslide, agreed.

Plague is indeed the best, but the 2007-2015 album run is overall amazing.

Yeah they're all great. Plague is a close second for me, might be my favorite if this wasn't as nostalgic for me or my introduction to the band.
I think we can all agree Medusa is the weakest in over a decade. It sounds like the follow-up will be more of the same.
I wouldn't mind if they tried a lighter sound again like in the late '90s and early 2000s, but modernized and more similar to the 2007-2015 albums.

Why though? The single ruled.

The single reminded me of Medusa, and they also seem to stick to one style for three or four albums at a time.

They don't though? I don't hear it. Make no mistake, they are all "doom metal", but different facets of it for sure.

They said the new one is going to be one of their most eclectic in a while. Besides, the track "Ghosts" might just sound like what you want based on the description.

I more meant different facets of gothic/doom metal.
Their first five albums gradually got lighter and more melodic, then they did four albums of goth rock/synth pop, then four albums of more traditional gothic metal, and now it's death/doom metal again starting with The Plague Within, but modernized and a little more musically diverse.
I read some interview a while back where they something like like change things up every four albums or so.
I haven't heard Ghosts yet so maybe they're changing things up for the new one.

TPW is more interesting on paper than it is in reality imo, whereas I see this as their musical peak but not necessarily their most interesting.
Anyway they keep saying that the last single is the closest to Medusa, so we'll see.

Naaah, Holmes' growls are horrible on that record. Still a solid effort, but I even like parts of "Medusa" more. But I agree, they're all solid to great records.

Congratulations to Paradise Lost! The Faith Divides Us album is ranked #5 in my top 101 albums for summer depression. Tragic Idol also has a very good #47. Obsidian of course is ranked #101. That album needs to grow on me more.
Faith Divides Us clicked immediately with me after first listen, Tragic Idol was similar to that.
I wish Paradise Lost can see my list I wish they would be proud.
