Apart from on Starless (he's amazing on that song) Wetton just seems like no more than an adequate vocalist to me. I like his voice and it is pretty unique but his singing certainly isn't his strongest point imo.

Yeah he sounds great on both of those (not amazing but great). This album is easily his best vocal performance imo. It's just that overall I wouldn't say he's a particularly strong singer, at least not technically (and especially not live from what I've heard), unlike Lake who is one of my favourite prog vocalists.

Couldn't agree more with this. Red was easily Wetton's best overall performance in King Crimson as he sounds great on everything. Only 3 out of the 5 tracks actually feature vocals, of course, but that's not much different from the previous two by this incarnation. You can actually hear him struggling with some of the parts on Larks, especially Exiles.

Lake is easily the most naturally gifted singer they've had.

I have the 14 disc Larks Tongues box set which is really sweet. Didn't know they were bringing out a Red one.

"agreed, top 5 of all time"

How can you say this is "top 5" when you haven't even 5'd it and you have more than five 5's?

moment of pure musical epiphany yet, but i can definitely appreciate how incredible it is musically
