I used to be so into TTN EP and self-titled back in the day and then The Grey EP came out and everyone had high hopes... but then this happened. Such a turd of an album.

still perplexed as to how all the instrumental demos on the deluxe are better than the actual songs here

secrets safe had a banging demo and i like deep down but why cant you see is clunky af. would take all those songs over changing tho have always hated that song even back in high school when i used to love this album. album as a whole hasnt held up terribly well but i still kinda dig it. helps that the last two songs are pretty strong

wish we got an album w tilian ngl his demos with the band slap ass and were a huge step up from this (and imo are also a lot better than tilians work w dgd)

Oh my god those tillian demos were so awesome. I like what he did with DGD but can't help wonder what would've happened if he had joined Saosin.

That song came on my shuffle and it’s such a propulsive melodramatic journey

Ditto. I really dig this one. Super underrated imo. I'll have to give it a spin soon to see how well it holds up in 2023 (fingers crossed).

Replacing Anthony Green with the wet turd of a singer they got was such a mistake, one of the most massive quality dropoffs form a single lineup change I've ever seen. Even self titled I found to be complete ass and I remember seeing them with Coheed with Cove on vocals and it was total doodoo.

Bless that he returned for Along the Shadow and i hope they have more in the tank with him.

I mean, Along the Shadow was an incredible album albeit even that is like 7/8 years old now (holy shit what) But they still perform w/ Anthony and there's always hope for more output. But yeah it's sad they put out such lukewarm albums in between such gems, I don't know what the circumstances were surrounding AG's originally leaving the band but it sucks they couldn't find someone with at least a shred of that unique sound/melodic sensibility and it went into bland overly-autotuned snoozefest instantly.

it was really bizarre at the time bcuz cove seemingly had tons of fans and was considered at least equal to green for awhile

To be fair I'm basing my opinion more on what I remember than what I think about those albums now because I haven't heard them in years and as a teen/young adult I probably heard one second of You're Not Alone and was like "this is dogshit" (I mean i can still hear the chorus in my head clearly, and it's dogshit)

Like, he had ridiculous shoes to fill and he was probably an okay enough singer on his own but goddamn I found his melodies and voice so bland and annoying in comparison.

I think one of the big mistakes with hiring Cove was that he auditioned doing Anthony impressions covering their songs. So, when it came time to not imitating him, what we got was very underwhelming in terms of his actual tones and style, and that the band approached it attempting to replace Anthony with another him instead of another singer entirely.

Still waiting for Spotify to get the acoustic tracks from TtN. I don’t know if it’ll ever happen, but still i wait

the demos cove recorded with saosin at the very beginning of his time in saosin were actually good. i think a few made it on the first full length oddly tacked on at the end. not sure what happened with the rest of that album and everything after. my wife is a fan of saosin but tbh i dont enjoy. translating the name was the best official release from them. along the shadow is way too samey and flat. i was def let down hearing that the first time knowing how good the ep with green is.

I'm personally a fan of AG's voice at all. His weird, underbitey, quasi falsetto voice just doesn't do anything for me. Neither do his screams. And Cove isn't much of a live performer. So, the two are at least comparable. I saw Anthony Green perform with Saosin at When We Were Young festival and man oh man was that guy awkward live. Sure, he had energy. But the way he interacted with the crowd in between songs was like he was on his first tour ever. I think Saosin's biggest mistake was not nailing down a new permanent vocalist before kicking Cove out of the band.

For sure. I don’t know why they don’t ask the guy who performed on Chiodos’ Illuminaudio
