This is the one Fightstar album I can't seem to get on board with. It's so moody and sludgy sounding almost to a fault, personally. Album lacks any kind of dynamic in terms of tonality, most hooks feel like I'm being attacked by a wall of sound. Admittedly it does have moments, some great riffs (Amaze Us and Tannhauser Gate go hard!) if anything and vocal deliveries can be fantastic. I only really come back to this for Deathcar, Our Last Common Ancestor and Unfamiliar Ceilings as they're genuinely great songs. But as a complete package it's a bit of a monotonous slog.

Album definitely works better when you're having a shitty day... I Am The Message just hit different this morning. Damn.
Bleakest of their albums for sure. Bumped because of my mood.

One Last Common Ancestor is such a belter.
Makes me nostalgic for a youth that never existed. I was 27 years when this came out and yet I can picture myself listening to the thing aged 14.
Full blown schizophrenic meltdown in full effect.

^Haha! Nostalgia works in wonderful ways. Minecraft has the same phenomenon with me, played that for the first time when I was 20, but the music brings me back to my childhood. So bizarre!
