Couldn't agree more. This band is definitely a grower but when they click, holy shit do they click.

To me, Oceanic feels like it has a tendency to drag. This couldn't drag if it tried.

Yeah this > Oceanic.
Tbh Oceanic is my 2nd least favorite behind Celestial, but it's still a top-notch album

Oceanic > this.
But not by much. Celestial is a grower, definitely took me some time.

Despite dragging a bit in the second half, Panopticon largely succeeds due to an increased influence of post-metal and ambience. The opening trio of songs in particular are among their very best.

That bass in the beginning and end of In Fiction is unbelievable. I've always loved how they use the bass as an atmospheric tool.

"Despite dragging a bit in the second half"
Damn, this doesn't drag at all for me

Altered Course is ten minutes of the same thing basically repeated over and over again, some other songs do the same thing too, but to a lesser degree

Dude listen to Altered Course with headphones. There's so much going on in it it's crazy. The build up in Syndic Calls is one of my favorite moments in music so far too.
|
| |
Haha damn dude, Altered Course is my favorite song on here by a decent margin, and my favorite Isis song next to Weight and Garden of Light. The first 4 minutes or so is one of my favorite sections in music
Syndic Calls is great as well

It's all great, and agreed that the first four minutes is an album highlight. But it doesn't need to be stretched out that long, especially when most of the songs beforehand follow a similar pattern. It's a small gripe though, I still love or at least enjoy everything on here.

I enjoy every single one of their albums more than this one tbh.
