Yes of course I know that shitty quality is a 'genre standard', but as a recording engineer, it can't help but make me want to beat my head on a wall and offer to rerecord them for free. Don't get me wrong, I love the music, but when I'm listen to it, hearing the production flaws is really distracting and takes away from the songs themselves. As a pure listener, it'd be fine I guess, you can still hear what's going on, so to each their own.
Idk, I know enough to realize that I shouldn't confront a genre, its standards, and its diehard fans, but it's just a personal pet peeve lol.

the way black metal is produced is what defines it as a genre, if you were a sound engineer or a fan of black metal you would know this and not make the mistake of calling it a production 'flaw'. dolt.

MOSTLY but other things have to be considered

like, heavy usage of tremolo picking and that oh-so-abused scream

though i completely agree, especially for this album which has fucking PERFECT production

black metal wouldnt be black metal without that raw, icy edge that comes from its production.

Going to school to become a music producer doesn't count dude.

Album is in my top 5 this year. 2009 isn't done yet and metal is just starting to get really good.
