This is one of the only mau5 reviews on the site that wasn't written by me! So yeah, I like him; though I'm liking his latest stuff less and less

I think some of his stuff since 4x4 has been pretty sweet though: Cephei, Where My Keys, Professional Griefers.

Don't forget Aural Psynapse. Not a huge fan of Where My Keys though. If he cut that one and Maths in half then both would be a lot better, they don't have enough going on to stay interesting the whole way through.

@dev 'Really don't see how Deadmaau5 would get bought up in the same conversation as Swarms, but okay lol' stupid youtube trolling attempt is all. talk about electronica to people who don't come to sputnik or actively look for new music and deadmau5 and skrillex seem to come up often

"Don't forget Aural Psynapse. Not a huge fan of Where My Keys though"
Only reason I left Aural Psynapse out is that was originally written a long time ago and has just been getting revised since then. But yeah, the official release of that rules immensely (and it always has), but it doesn't show any signs of creative growth since it was mostly made before 4x4.
But I love the way he manipulates a very simplistic melody in Where My Keys to make some huge builds. The way he takes that simple 2-note melody into something else and creates tension only to bring it straight back into that simple beat is so awesome. I think you know what I mean, but the part at ~4:35 to be specific is so fucking cool.
Maths seems like a decent idea to me and I don't hate it, but the original melody that he's playing with just seems abrasive enough on its own, and then he manipulates it to be even more annoying throughout. I get the build and release he's going for, but by the time the build reaches its climax it's just too annoying to have any appeal.

random album title sadly was his only good album. still, i think his first "artist album" will be amazing, since it will finally be an album "he (himself) would enjoy to listen to"

I'm fearing more and more that he won't release his "artist album". Originally, it would've been 4x4, but yeah...

"what would others say is better then?"
Well, John Digweed and James Holden for a start. Also, check out Deep Dish/Sharam/Dubfire, they have some really mindblowing tracks.
