Totally agree. Still think it's quite impressive that they managed to get six high quality records out of this style before it becoming stale.

Norns is particularly underrated, being sandwiched between VS and Oden, their most acclaimed records. Poor Norns! At least we know!

At Victorious March now, one of their best tunes.

Indeed! I think front to back Norns might be my favorite from them still. Not a full moment on there. One of the few CDs I had to buy a second copy due to intense scratching from me handling it too much back in the day

Norns is pretty underrated indeed. I think if I had to rate early AA, it'd be something like 1. Oden 2. Versus 3. this 4. Norns 5. Avenger 6. Crusher. Crusher and Avenger are usually interchangeable for me, and this gets really close to overtaking Versus sometimes but everything else is probably a solid placement.

One of their better songs, yeah. Back when they actually put in some effort.

Glad to see the victorious march love. One of my faves too. Also, wasn't until years after I got into opeth that I found out Lopez played on this

Yeah agreed, it's glorious.

Secretly I do see some Opeth likenesses on this one, also in tone sometimes, and riffs occasionally as well.

Swedish DM from the mid to late 90s I guess!

vocals were better on later albums but man instrumentally this is near their peak. back when i first listened to this like 10 years ago I wasn't a fan of the rawness but I really appreciate it now.

Man this is extremely fucking underrated after all. The constant tremolo guitar and relatively lo-fi production pretty much make this a melodic black metal album I'd say. Its still very punchy, the production is pretty much perfect imo. Leaning towards a 4.5 now.

Yeah absolutely true Flug. It reminds me of Orchid in a way for instance, with the BM-y DM-y ness. A fantastic album with some of their best tunes.
